The Beauty & The Beast That is Lupus

As some of you may know, I had the pleasure of interviewing Mrs. Illinois American - Alisa Bailey Stevens. (Check out our IG Live from January 19 for the full interview) This was very special to me for so many reasons. First, Mrs. Stevens’ background of nursing pulled at my heart strings and then to find out she faces Lupus in the face daily….I just knew I had to have her on this LIVE! She is not only beautiful on the outside but the beauty that comes from within is like no other! Alisa is a wife, mother of 2 and has a career that keeps her pretty busy. She received the Mrs. Illinois American crown in 2021 and volunteers her time with many organizations. Her main reason for wanting to compete was to show little girls that look like her that they can do it too! What she may not know is how she inspired me during our chat!

My question to her was “HOW do you do it all?” and her quick response was “Faith, Grace and Coffee” ROFL! She’s funny too! She gives praise to her family for their support and her husband, Kevin, who runs the Chicago Marathon every year raising money for the Lupus Foundation. We Love you Kevin!

I'm not going to lie, this interview made me a bit emotional. I have family members and friends who battle with Lupus and members who have lost their battle to it.

Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease. It is characterized by the production of auto antibodies (an antibody that attacks the organism’s own cells) and a disrupted immune response. Lupus can affect almost any part of the body, such as the joints, the skin, the kidneys and the brain.

By racial/ethnic group, the percentages of patients with Lupus are:

40% Black - 38% White - 15% Hispanic - 5% Asian - 2% Indigenous

Alisa, if you are reading this, thank you for your positive energy and letting people know it's OK not to be OK when those days are needed. We touched on diet, exercise and treatments that have helped Alisa balance her life of Living with Lupus. She admits that eating healthier (cleaner) and exercising have been an amazing asset to her life (she swears by Socanomics classes) BUT she, like most women, does not make time for those treatments that we think of as fluff, pampering. So, I invited Alisa to come to Bijou Body Spa and have the deep penetrating Detox Sauna Blanket Treatment…Here are some of the benefits she received during treatment:

  • Increase in Circulation

  • Boost of Oxygen Flow

  • Reduces Inflammation

  • Reduces Soreness

  • Calms the Nerves

  • Release of Muscle Tension

  • Release of Stress

  • Improvement in Stiffness

  • Reduction of Pain

  • Better Sleep

  • Detoxification

Thank you all for stopping by and reading about our Queen and how Thermal Detoxification can help you with your autoimmune disease or how it can help in general. Please share this Blog with someone who may benefit from the information.
